Independent Technical Expert (ITE) for the Dynamic Containment Testing of the Wickham Market Storage Project

In December 2020, Everoze acted as Independent Technical Expert (ITE) on behalf of EDF for the test verification of National Grid ESO’s new Dynamic Containment frequency response service at the 50 MW Wickham Market Storage Project.
Everoze’s scope as ITE required a review of the test setup and equipment arrangement for the project, analysis of the commissioning test results and issuing a certificate and report of the results for submission to National Grid ESO.
Vicky Ling, Senior Manager of Flexibility Operations for EDF, commented “We were very pleased to get the project fully verified under Dynamic Containment and actively responding to UK grid frequency. The Everoze team were very responsive under tight timescales and demonstrated their familiarity with both the technology and the regulatory requirements.”
Robin Redfern, Everoze project manager for this work, comments that; “Thanks to the supportive efforts from the EDF and Upside teams, we were able to review the measurement and control equipment and review the test data swiftly and get the project certified under Dynamic Containment. It’s really impressive when you see the real-life results from these tests and get a sense of just how fast and accurately the system can ramp to full export or import. We’re talking about accuracy which can be measured in the equivalent of just a few kettles-worth at a 10s of megawatts scale project. Through EDF, this project is now providing valuable post-fault frequency response services to the GB network.”
